She is able to gain more access to Charlie by entering his room and finding the newspaper, something that he surely would not allow just anyone to do. Though she does not control Charlie with sexuality, her emotional control over him begins to take its toll. It is necessary to look passed the lack of stereotypical aspects in order to see Charlotte as the femme fatale. Charlotte’s character does not lead the viewer to believe she will embody this femme fatale persona, however she does prove to be the foil to Charlie. In this film, Charlotte is introduced as a wholesome and loving daughter. Furthermore, the femme fatale is usually a woman who is not to be trusted. Because of the nature of the uncle-niece relationship the lust that is normally present does not come about between the two. Traditionally, the character has a sexual relationship with the male protagonist or lures him in with the promises of one. The femme fatale of classic film noir has many characteristics that are not seen in the character of Charlotte. Charlotte Oakley, Charlie’s niece, embodies this role in the film, a major departure from the stock femme fatale. One of the most notable of these tweaks is the role of the femme fatale in opposition to the main character of Charlie Oakley.
